What is a Mini Goldendoodle puppy?
A golden doodle is a cross between a golden retriever and commonly known poodle. The name doodle was coined from poodle in 1992.
Which was then later attached to the new unique breed when the poodle/’doodle’ was crossbred with a golden retriever. Since the late 1990s, this breed has become more popular across the whole of North America and Australia.
It is also common to find 2 different Goldendoodles that are referred to as toy mini Goldendoodle puppies. Let’s dig a little further into this…
When it comes to different sizes in Goldendoodles then you will not notice a lot of difference between the 2. The main reason that you will find two dogs have the same breed with different labels this simply down to their size. The majority of dogs that are referred to as mini usually only makes it to that spot by being mixed with a breed that has a smaller size than the purebred parent.
From my research, I was able to see that a lot of these dogs are still recognized by the AKC although they don’t become official for many years after the purebred parents. So that means if you find a dog that is already registered on the AKC, then the smaller and differently sized Mini or toy dog may not be officially registered until the public is recognized.
How this dog was made official
There are many different variables that the AKC take into consideration before making the dog official. It is not something I can fit nor discuss in depth here, as It would be a whole within itself.
But I can tell you that these dogs have been around for almost the same amount of time as any purebred dogs too. Anyways, I decided to look into how big a Goldendoodle can get and what an average adult can weigh up to, and here’s what I found…
How big do mini Goldendoodle puppies get?
I was able to find that an average adult Goldendoodle can grow of sizes up to 24 inches long. It’s quite interesting as the females and males do not differentiate by a vast amount, which is something that you find separates gender and many other breeds.
so to give you some specific figures of what I found from my research. The female Goldendoodle can get up to around 22 to 23 inches, whilst you can expect a fully grown male Goldendoodle to reach sizes of 23 – 24inces.
Now whilst the nails may be a little bit larger in size or length when measured for height and length. When it comes to waiting there is absolutely no difference as they both can range from anywhere between 50 to 75 lbs. It’s been like this for many years ago as in actual fact they have supposedly been around for a significant amount of time.
When did the Goldendoodle first come around?
So according to wagwalking.com, I was able to find that the Goldendoodle can officially be traced all the way back to the early 1980s. It comes as no surprise because you can find that golden retrievers have been around from the early 1900s was poodles can be traced back as far as the 1800s.
Who’s to say that this breed hasn’t been around longer than 1980. it wouldn’t surprise me as a lot of the time you’ll find that agreed only can be traced back to a certain point of its popularity. Or on the other hand, if the AKC has made the dog publicly official. I decided to dig a little further and see what I could find about the temperament of this dog.
Even by just taking a quick look at a poodle and a Golden Retriever, then I would expect this dog to be full of energy 24/7 Around the Clock. Keep reading as I’ll discuss all of my findings around this topic and whether that statement actually holds true.
How smart are Goldendoodles?
Without sounding biased you can take a quick look and quickly identified that the Golden Retriever will be the side of the smarts in this. This is by no means to put down the poodle however they are more than going to be hyperactive and very loving and caring companion dogs.
I was able to find that Goldendoodles seem to be mediocre when it comes to doggy smarts or intelligence. It does not mean that is that they are not able to take part in complex so difficult tasks. It’s just a very sketchy area at the moment as to breed is still relatively new in the public eye. Parents are the owners have reported that they spread can and be relatively easy to train.
However they can be over hyperactive, so it is important to get some obedience training set in from early. Take a look at this video with a little Goldendoodle named Merlot:
Goldendoodle puppy temperament
Generally, these dogs tend to have very high energy and I need to discuss that energy throughout the day. It is important to take them out for regular walks at least once per day that can amount to around 60 Minute walks daily or 12 miles per week.
It isn’t really that hard in the grand scheme of things, as you will only need to take them out for like 20 minutes a time around three times per day.
Quite different to some of the breeds of also researched on in the past and also to Golden Retrievers. I do find that smaller dogs don’t tend to need as much walking time as some of the larger breeds because they get quite a lot of exercise just walking around the house.
As you can imagine for a larger dog it’s not as ideal for them to just walk around the garden or the house of course unless you’re living in a huge mansion.
Which in that case he wouldn’t be reading this blog as you probably have a professional dog trainer already doing all of the walkings for you…or maybe not. For those who are just trying to get a little more information on how to take care of this dog efficiently then I’ve also researched a few tips that might be helpful to you in the following section.
Taking care of Goldendoodle puppies
It was not just enough to go and find out about the history of this dog as I thought I would also see how easy they are to take care of. I wanted to know a little bit more about the maintenance of these dogs as well as how to manage them around the family or children.
So I’ll be sharing all of my findings with the inside of this post, and hopefully, if you are unsure or had a few questions around this topic then you should be able to find some answers here.
The first let’s discuss a little bit more about the Golden Girls coat and how to take care of that. You will find that this dog has a very thick and long dents coat that needs to be taken care of on a weekly basis.
They have very curly hair so it’s easy for the code to become tangled and not in so it’s important you have a right so brushes to get that out from time to time. Another reason is that you do not want their skin to be damaged from the dirt and debris that is left inside of their coat.
I was able to find that it is recommended you brush them down weekly, but from taking a look at their curly hair and my past experience…Then I would suggest you brush them down at least once every 3 to 4 days.
This type of code is recommended that you take your dog to a professional groomer least once every 8 to 12 weeks. Of course, that is for you guys who do not know how to professionally Groom a Dog. as if you do then you could simply do the job yourself.
They seem to be a particular problem with the hair that excessively grows around the eyes and their footpads. Kinda obvious because when you think of her poodle and when their hair grows then you can sort of picture them weird that excessive hair around their eyes in feet from time to time.
It’s the same really with the Golden Retriever as well as I have to maintain Bella’s feet very often buy grooming her due to excessive hair growth around her legs.
What is the best brush for grooming a Groodle?
These dogs are full of energy so it’s highly recommended that they go to a family who has a lot of outdoor activity events and many participants to play games with. In this situation, if you find that you have kids and you’d like to get a pair then this would be a great choice for you. It’ll be also a good dog for someone who lives inside of an urban environment or a block of apartments.
As long as these dogs are generally got enough space to run around, then they will usually be ok. They are very good with other dogs as well so if you have another dog at home even better. It will give them a companion to play along with for many hours throughout the day.
Some of the health concerns associated with this dog are no different to many other dogs in major concerns with the vast majority of breeds.
A few of those major health concerns that you may find commonly referred to are the following:
- Patellar Luxation
- Elbow Dysplasia
- Hip Dysplasia
- Von Willebrand’s Disease
To be quite frank, I’m not sure that I’ve yet come across a dog that is mixed with the Golden Retriever that doesn’t have the potential suffering of hip dysplasia.
this is one of the most common problems that you find with dogs that are crossbred with a Golden Retriever as the Golden Retriever is highly probable to experience this problem.
Regular checkups for this dog
To avoid any health problems with your dog, then it is super important that you take them for occasional checks to prevent or early diagnose any unusual activity. For this specific breed of dog you will need to have the following checks:
- Skin Scraping
- X-Rays Eye
- Physical Examination
- Blood Tests and Analysis
Where can you buy a Goldendoodle?
as I always mention across the whole of this blog. when you are purchasing a dog privately or through a private breeder then you are exposing yourself to an element of risk.
I always favor purchasing from a professional breeder but for those of you who might not have the budget to do so then here are a few websites you can take a look at.
As always I suggest you go and check out the AKC official website to see if you can find any information on some of the professional breeders that are selling this breed. You can always check out my post on purchasing a mini Goldendoodle on this site too.
Mini Goldendoodle puppies are definitely the new golden phenomenon. they have everything you will find In a Golden Retriever packed inside of a small package that makes them ideal for an urban living environment.
