Corgi Husky Mix: A Guide For All Dog Lovers

Looking to learn about the new corgi husky mix?

Great! as today Im going to go through their:

  • Behavior and training
  • Grooming and healthcare
  • Costs and appearance
  • lifespans and much more

With that said, I’m sure you’ll understand there is a lot to learn, so without further ado!

Lets dig in…

What exactly is a corgi mix husky?

Like you may have already gathered, the corgi husky mix is exactly as it may sound which is a cross between a husky and a Welsh corgi. You may hear the name of this dog in all different ways as it seems that whatever rolls off the tongue is what is used to name them for some.

For example, a few of the names that you may hear will be “Horgi,” “Siborgi,” or “Corgski” which are all names commonly used in the western world. As to date none of these names have been officially registered as official by the AKC, so until then, I guess we’ll continue to hear them.

To really understand the history behind this dog then we must first take a look at their parents. This will give you a clearer understanding as to what this dog is and where exactly they came from.

Now, although we may find some common traits in their parents, in my personal experience, this will not determine the behavior or temperament of a new puppy.  Lets first take a look at the purebred Welsh Corgi.

A close look at the Welsh Corgi

The Welsh corgi is a very small looking dog with a sausage-shaped body and brown eyes with medium to long fur. They originate from Wales, Great Britain and dates back to around the 1100s, long before you and I were born. The original use or purpose for this breed was to herd sheep, so they were very much used as working dogs back in the old times.

This particular breed has not escaped the royal heights as King George VI first made this dog popular when he gifted a pup to his daughter. The AKC first recognized this dog as an official breed back in 1934 and since then the rest has been history.

If we were to take a look at the behavior and temperament of this dog, then it’s not hard to see that they are fun, loving and caring. The Welsh corgi also has straight hair with a coat that comes in many different colors such as:

  • White
  • Blue
  • Red
  • Black
  • Fawn
  • Sable

Those are around the most common that I have come across and also which has been reported by a few authorities in the industry. Size-wise, this breed can grow to a whopping 10 to 12 inches and weight can average about 22, 29 lbs. It’s really interesting to then look at these factors later in a corgi husky mix as a husky is on the other end of the scale in size and weight.

Now that we have taken a look at the Corgi we must now move onto the other parent which in this case is my favorite husky of all Huskies.

A deeper look at a Husky

So you may already know that there are multiple different Huskies around the world that all different in some way, shape or form. Now, whilst all of them have some amazing traits, I honestly have to say that the Siberian Husky has to be my favorite.

From the way they look to their intelligence and behavior, they are nothing short of amazing, which makes me excited to tell you about them. Siberian Huskies have been around for hundreds of years but really became well known back in the 1900s of where they would be used by nomadic people to pull sleds during the Siberian winters.

The Siberian Husky was the first recognized by the AKC in 1930 which is when they also became the 12th most popular dog in the world. This breed as you can expect is big in size as they stand to around 20 to 23 inches and weigh anywhere from 35 to 51lbs.

Again this is a straight haired dog that has a medium to a long fur coat. And you can expect their coats to come in various colors such as the following:

  • White
  • Black
  • Gray
  • Brown
  • Red
  • Silver
  • Pied
  • Sable

These are the most commonly found colors to date. Siberian Huskies also have different eye colors such as brown, hazel, and blue. And it’s not uncommon to find one dog with 2 different colored eyes.

What does a corgi husky mix look like?

There’s no denying that a corgi husky mix is a very cute looking dog. And by looking at the parents then it’s kind of what I would have expected too. These little pups have a beautiful look to them as they have a relatively small size and come in all different colors depending on their parents.

In the following sections, we will go over all the elements about a corgis husky mix as well as give you all the details of where and how to buy one. So without any further ado. Lets finally get stuck into the most important part of this post. Here we discuss all things corgi and husky.

Corgis Husky colors

The reason I gave you the colors of a purebred Welsh Corgi and a Siberian husky earlier, was down to the fact that the crossbreeds coat is completely unpredictable. I have personally seen all different colors of corgis huskies and there is never an accurate prediction as to what color they will exactly come out.

Both of the parents may have different colors and there is a scientific probability that comes into play as to what they MAY have but nothing in concrete. For this reason, I personally love this breed even more due to the fact that they don’t follow common rules and instead give you an element of surprise with a beautiful array of colors.

I’ve seen them come in all different tones with different colors in the eyes too. Next, we’ll dive into the temperament on this breed below!

Unlike the coat on the corgi husky mix, there is a lot more predictability when it comes to temperament. Now there are a few factors that come into play here. Firstly, it does not really matter what kind of temperament is commonly found in each breed of parent. But instead matters more about each individual parent and how they behave or have a willingness to obey their parents.

This will give a much clearer understanding as to whether the puppy will grow to be aggressive or calm and friendly. But to be completely honest with you, to this date of writing this post I have never yet come across any real negative info about this breed of dog.

It seems that they have a very and caring manner and love to go on regular walks daily. If you are the type to stay at home most of the time then this may not be the dog for you. Although, if you have a large backyard space, then this may compensate for long walks. From researching for the past few weeks, the only downside I have managed to pluck out around these dogs characteristics is their ability to be trained.

The best training to start with

Hands down the best training that you can start off with is dog obedience training. In doing so, you’ll ensure that you raise a happy healthy dog that follows instructions and listens to commands. A great program I got started with was brain training for dogs. I’ve actually written a complete review of the program too.

A corgi husky mix coat

You can be sure to find this dog with a very thick coat that is usually straight-haired. Their coat is usually medium to long in length with a water-resistant double coat depending on which parents coat they inherit.

Grooming this dog will be a regular procedure, so if you re the type to not want any here around the house then you may need to think again. This dog sheds a lot and because they have straight hair it will just drop out anywhere and everywhere. Good luck with cleaning up behind them!

Corgi Husky mix weight and height

The average weight and height for this breed can vary depending on their parents.  But after digging around for some clear cut information, I was quickly able to find out that they average around 25 to 40lbs in weight. And around 12 to 13 inches in height.

Now whilst this is not the largest type of dog. It would not be recommended for someone that lives in a very small apartment due to their walking requirements. Of course, there are ways to work around that and they are far from the size of a Siberian husky.

It’s really interesting to see what characteristics and traits that they take from each parent as it’s the one thing that makes this breed so unique. Now that we have covered all of the topics under appearance, its now time to dig into their health, life expectancy and how you can get hold of one if you haven’t already.

What kind of health do corgis husky mixes have?

So the one problem that seems to come up again and again for this breed is back problems. Because they have such short legs and carry a lot of weight in their adult age, they can sometimes get a bad back.

Now, this is not something that guaranteed to happen but it’s very commonly found amongst this breed of dog. On a good note, they have not been reported to take on the other problems that are found in both parent breeds, so it’s not all bad.

It’s important though that if you are dealing with a breed that you ensure they have undergone a test for genetic testing. This will make sure that they are well informed as to whether your pup will be free or prone to diseases found in their parents.

There is a whole heap of reasons as to why I dog may get ill or fall victim of a disease. Whilst we can do our best as parents to prevent it, the inevitable can sometimes become a problem and so its best to take as much care when buying a new pup. But ultimately, its also a good idea to be very realistic and just understand that all living beings fall ill and a good healthy life will be sure to reduce the risk.

How long do Corgis Husky’s live for?

A corgi husky mix can live from anywhere of 12 years to15 years of age. The average lifespan for new breeds is usually based around the expectancies for their parent breeds. Now while these figures appear to be exact, they can only be used as guidelines based on averages over the past few years.

The good news is that your new family member will be here to stay for quite sometime before they get to any element of old age. It’ll give you and the family and decide to enjoy and make memories with them.

But if you are wanting to be a new dog owner to a husky mix corgi, then keep reading this post as we get stuck into where you can buy one next.

Breeders that sell Corgi Husky Mixes

Now because this blog is not a purebred dog, you will for sure have a very difficult time finding one. I mean so difficult that you may need to hire an RV and go for a long old trip across to another state long.

But more on a serious note, I have managed to find you some private breeders that have these dogs for sale. I do not usually recommend private breeders but if you find yourself wanting a mix bred dog then this may be your only option.

There are a few guidelines to follow when buying a dog from a private breeder as well as some things to always look out for. I have pulled a page from the official AKC website to help you better understand what those are.

I suggest you print them out and keep them to use in the future too. Here is a link to read it. As I said, make sure to print it out or save it, and then keep it so you can use it again anytime you need it.

So the sites that you can find theses private breeders on with the corgi huskies for sale are the following:

Of course, there are many more but those are a few you can start with right away. The idea is that if they don’t have a puppy for sale that you want right now then you should ask them for if they have any contacts that do.

So it’s no good showing you where to buy this or if you don’t even know how much it will cost. So that is exactly what we will go through in the next section of this post.

How much will this breed cost?

No matter what breeder you decide to use you will always seem to find different prices across the board. It to be completely honest it mainly comes down to the basics of supply and demand.

Different states have different demand for this breed and so you may find that in one state the price is higher than another state.

However, whilst there is no exact figure that I can provide you. There is still an average that I have managed to pull from all the listings I have seen for this dog. And so I can safely say that if you are looking to buy a corgi husky mix puppy then you’ll be looking at around $1000 plus.

Whilst this breed is not the most unique in the world it is certainly in high demand. And what’s more, is that fact that they are so hard to get. So like with anything that is currently a rarity it comes with a price tag.

I suggest you browse around before buying and really gather an understanding of what sort of price you should be paying for this dog in your local state. Last but not least I will go through on whether this dog has won me over to bring home to the family and whether you should too.

Is this a good dog to bring home to the family?

This answer is very simple and easy to provide as it goes without saying that this is a brilliant dog to own. Although training can be a small issue it is certainly nothing to be concerned about. I would highly suggest this dog for any family looking for a new addition as they are safe protective and loving.

I suggest you get started with some good training to make sure that everything remains in check at all times. There are a few great programs on the market that allow you to do this from home. I personally tried the brain training for dogs and that worked like magic for me.

its a great way to get started with teaching your dog to behave and follow commands, perform tricks and all sorts!

Here’s the complete guide on the corgi husky mix to give you a clear idea as to whether this dog is for you. I love all dogs including this mix very much and if you had to ask me if it would make a great dog for your home, then I would say yes for most people. you just got to make sure its the right dog for you and by reading this post that should be an easy decision.
